Spring/Summer 2018
Tiger and Rose

The ANGEL CHEN S/S18 collection is inspired by an immortal line written by the modern British poet, Siegfried Sassoon – “In me the tiger sniffs the rose”, which also tells of the designer’s attitude to life - “Life is like a cruel battlefield, everyone has a fierce tiger living in their hearts, fighting their predicaments like a soldier. Meanwhile, life is like a garden full of roses, covered with crystal morning dew, gentle and peaceful, just like the fresh grassy air that exudes the roses’ fragrance. A person who only carries a tiger in their heart is reckless while the one with only roses could be too weak to survive on the cruel battlefield of life.”

The designer communicates her attitude towards life and depicts a future Noah’s Ark in the new collection. Seven pairs of creatures have been chosen for the designer’s own Ark; they are cranes, crocodiles, tigers, leopards, longicorn, dragonflies and mantis. Blending with ancient Indian totems, Thailand’s Buddhist sacred symbols as well as Chinese metallic yarn and silk embroidery, the collection is artistic and modern, overflowing with the cultural spirit of South-East Asia.

The label is well-known for its splendid use of exuberant colors. The key colors of this season are crimson red, bright yellow, nude pink and navy blue which have created a strong visual impact together with an innovative waterproof fabric, glossy elastic spandex, camouflage pink PU leather and the signature tasseled jacquard.

Evolving from the giant lizard backpack in the previous collection, the longicorn backpack for this season has many more functional details on a lifelike longicorn silhouette. Apart from the co-designed shoes with Taiwanese brand, Abcense, some of the looks are matched with Adidas Originals new shoe-style Tubular to present high-end streetwear.
