Angel Chen is a Chinese designer whose colourful approach to fashion coupled with the brand’s core-concept of fusion of Eastern and Western aesthetics, has made her one of the country’s brightest young talents. Stocked internationally at 70 retailers, including Bergdorf Goodman, Selfridges, Lane Crawford, Luisa Via Roma, 10 Corso Como, Galeries Lafayette, Chen is part of a new wave of young Chinese designers making an impact locally and globally. A graduate from Central Saint Martins, Chen moved from her native Shenzhen to study in London at age 17. During her placement year, the designer interned for Marchesa, Vera Wang and Alexander Wang in New York. Following her graduate collection, Chen was chosen by i-D as one of five designers-to-watch, and launched her eponymous label the following year. As a part of the 2017 International Designer Exchange Program, Mercedes-Benz invited Chen to present her Autumn/Winter 2017 collection at Milan Fashion Week. Previously, she showed at London Fashion Week with Fashion Scout, before basing herself in Shanghai. Her last Spring-Summer 2019 Collection showed at New York Fashion Week. Making the 2016 Forbes Asia “30 Under 30” and 2017&2018 BoF 500 shortlist, the Designer has been shortlisted among this year’s finalists for the International Woolmark Prize. Counting on an ever-growing global fan-base, Chen has also worked with celebrities like Bella Hadid, Charli XCX, Chris Lee, TF Boys and Fan Bingbing, making tailor garments for the influential pop culture figures in China.
